Summer Preparations for Fall Advising

We will regularly update the information in this section to keep you abreast of important advising issues throughout the academic year.

We focus now on information you'll need this summer to make preparations for the arrival of your advisees and for your first advising meetings during Orientation, including:

Meeting Your Advisees During Orientation Week (Aug 25-28) : Information and advice on Fall registration procedures and how to prepare for your registration meetings with your advisees, including how to make use of information from Admissions Folders and the Online Freshman Advising Folder on WebSIS.
Online Advising Folder: Access your advisees' Online Freshman Advising Folder.

Sending email welcome letters: Information on getting your list of 2008-09 advisees, and information/guidelines on what to include in your email "Welcome" letters.
Sample Welcome Emails: A couple of sample "Welcome" emails to advisees to guide you in your own preparations.

Advisor Folders vs. Admissions Folders: Details on what to keep in the Advisor Folder and the difference between this folder and the Admissions Folder.

Reading Admissions Folders: Get the most out of the information you find in your advisees' Admissions folders.
Preparing for Individual Registration Meetings: What to be doing in preparation for meeting your advisees in the last week of August. Also, remember the All-Advisor Orientation on Monday, August 25 for a quick review of the GIRs.
