Freshmen at Mid-Term: Challenges and Solutions
Associate advisors and freshman advisors came together on October 16th for a lively discussion regarding Freshmen At Mid-Term: Challenges and Solutions. Attendees shared their opinion on how to talk to freshmen who receive one or more fifth week flags and when to advise them on dropping a class or activity. Since only advisors are copied on fifth week flags (notifications of their advisees whose work in a subject is below passing level), we encouraged associate advisors to check in with their advisees at the fifth week period to make sure they are directed to the appropriate resources.
In addition, we provided participants with handouts to help their advisees on how to study, how to avoid procrastination and how to get help. Review the tips compiled by Resident Associate Advisors of McCormick Hall, as well as other sources:
