Working with Your Advising Group

The section is designed to help you in your role as an associate advisor. It provides you with advice on working with your advising group, and the information you need to stay informed on important issues during the academic year, so that you can advise more effectively.

The section is updated frequently to focus on topics of importance; as the semester progresses and ends.

  • Current Issues for Your Advisees: Issues currently affecting your advisees (such as fifth week flags, improving academic performance, etc.) and what you can do to help.

  • Effective Communication: Tips for communicating effectively with your advisees and advising group.

  • Keeping in Touch: Information on keeping in contact with your group and individual advisees throughout the academic year.

  • Confidentiality: Information on the Student Information Policy and your responsibilities on confidential student information.

  • Social Activities: Tips and suggestions for planning social events and activities with your advising group.

  • The Associate Link Newsletter: Important Issues to Consider: a newsletter designed by and for associates, which is committed to assisting you in your efforts, as you encourage and foster the success of freshmen at MIT. In addition to the online version posted on this site, the Link is mailed to you three times a year and will provide you with news, ideas for freshman activities, and will keep you abreast of freshmen events.
