Expectations
of the Residence-Based Advising
Program: Making the RBA Commitment
Students participating in RBA make a commitment to both their advising group and their residence. To ensure the continuity and the quality of the advising experience, RBA participants remain active members of the RBA community for their entire first year at MIT and with the sole exception of Next House are not eligible to enter the Orientation Adjustment Lottery.
Students assigned to Next House after the Adjustment Lottery will have the same commitment as other RBA residence halls; that is, they will be expected to remain active members of their hall community for their entire first year at MIT.
Under exceptional circumstances, a first-year student in RBA may be permitted to request a housing change, but these exceptions are rarely made.
