RBA Overview

McCormick Hall

McCormick Hall is currently one of three residences that participate in the Residence-Based Advising (RBA).

McCormick is an all female residence that thrives on student leadership and high academic achievement. McCormick has a variety of facilities available to students, including a dance studio, large common areas, and a dining hall. The RAA's at McCormick reinforce McCormick's reputation for student leaders. The RAA's enjoy coordinating monthly events for the residents, such as Destress Night, How to Get A's at MIT, Dollars and Sense, and so many more! In addition, they coordinate fun outings to restaurants, shows, and museums in Boston and Cambridge.

I am an international student from Pakistan. I lived all my life in Karachi before I came to MIT for my undergrad three years ago. I have stayed in McCormick Hall for three years and absolutely love it.  I will be a senior this fall, majoring in Course 6 (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) with a possible minor in BME (Biomedical Engineering). I enjoy both EE and CS immensely and haven’t decided between the two yet. When not studying, I like drawing, learning, eating, fixing up things, listening to music and hanging out with friends.

I’m a sophomore in Course 6 from Cupertino, California. I like to cook, read, and hang out with my friends. More often than not, my friends and I go on ice cream runs, even in the middle of winter. J I’m involved in a bunch of activities on campus including SWE, ESP, MIT TechFair, Spring Weekend, and 2012 Class Council.

I became an RAA because I really love everything about freshman year, from Pass/No Record to exploring what activities you want to commit to. I love answering questions about anything related to MIT, so don’t hesitate to ask!

I'm from Lawrence, Kansas, home of the Jayhawks (best college basketball team ever! Let me know if you want to debate this). I am Course 6 and 14, and at MIT I try to make time for running, cooking, reading for fun, meeting new people, and hanging out with friends, though my interests also include crafts of all kinds, gardening, flute, games/puzzles, and lots of other random stuff. MIT doesn't leave me much time for them, but one can try right?

I applied to become an RAA because I want to get to know the new faces on campus better and help you with all the first-year adjustments like everyone helped me during my freshman year.

Hometown: NYC, New York
Course: 7.  Hobbies: Sketching, Drawing.

I became an RAA because my RAA was amazing and really helped me transition into the MIT environment. I would love to help other freshmen do the same as an RAA.

I'm a junior in course 8 and course 17. That means I get to study how things work and how nations work! I'm from New Haven, CT. I like to practice speaking German; run, hike, and swim long distances; watch The Daily Show; and go-adventuring around Boston while listening to stormy Russian classical music.

I became an RAA because I love MIT and want to share the love with freshmen!!

Shan Tie

Hometown: Cleveland, OH.
Hobbies: Sketching, photography
Course: 10B.
Indulgent food: dark cherry chocolate with a hint of chili
Must do before I graduate: skydive

I joined RBA because I really felt that after going through freshmen year, it was a tough time and I felt it was now my time to share my knowledge and tips to help the incoming students.

Why I became an RAA: My freshman year, I realized the importance of having a good RAA and hope to be said mentor and friend to incoming freshman. I want to help them face the challenges of MIT while having an awesome, fun time!

Hometown: Oak Ridge, TN
Hobbies: Playing the violin, reading, learning languages, watching dramas, traveling, eating.
Course: 15 and 3

I became a RAA because as a freshman last year, my RAA was extremely helpful when it came to picking classes and just adjusting to college life in general. It's like having someone always there for you. I want to share that experience with the freshmen this year. I can't wait to meet everyone!
