The First Year at MIT: For Transfer Students

Housing

The UAAP will mail a letter to you from Undergraduate Housing Office explaining the housing selection process. You will then have the opportunity to fill out a Housing Request Form that needs to be submitted in July.

Transfer students have the option of selecting MIT housing or off-campus housing. There are great advantages to both living opportunities, and this page will help you understand your choices.

On-Campus Housing

See the Housing website for more information or contact MIT Housing staff.

Off-Campus Housing

Boston, Cambridge, and surrounding communities are rich with diversity, intellectual and cultural opportunities. Check out the MIT Off-Campus Housing website to find information on short-term housing, apartments, realtors rental fees, leases, etc. Access to this site requires valid MIT web certificates.

NOTE: housing availability in the city of Boston and surrounding areas is limited, so please do not wait until you arrive to begin your search. If you prefer off-campus housing, we encourage you to begin your search ASAP.

If you have any questions about off-campus housing, please contact the Off-Campus Housing Office.

Fraternities, Sororities, and Independent Living Groups (FSILGS)

Many students enjoy living in one of our thirty-seven fraternities, sororities and Independent Living Groups. For information about FSILGs, check out the FSILG section of the Residential life site.
