Transfer Student Orientation Schedule, 2009

The Office of Undergraduate Advising and Academic Programming (UAAP) welcomes you to MIT and aims to ensure your smooth transition to life at the Institute.

Transfer Student Orientation is MANDATORY and is scheduled Wednesday, August 26- Friday, August 28. *International Students are required to attend International Orientation and must be in touch with Danielle Guichard-Ashbrook in the International Students' Office, (617) 253-3795 or danielle@mit.edu for more intormation.

Wednesday, August 26

  • Check-In:  9 am – 5 pm (anytime) in Building 7-104
    (Leslie Bottari)

    Be sure to say hello and to pick up your MIT ID and information packet in the Office of Undergraduate Advising and Academic Programming.
  • Ice Cream Social: 7– 8:30 pm in W11 – Large Dining Hall

    After checking in and getting settled come over and get some ice cream for dessert!  This is a great opportunity to meet your associate advisors, as well as, other transfer students. Start making connections right away!

Thursday, August 27 (W11 - Large Dining Hall)

  • UAAP Open House/ Breakfast:  10 am – 12 pm

    Join Leslie Bottari and your Associate Advisors to hear important information that you will need as you start your MIT career.
  • Financial Aid Luncheon: 12 – 1:30 pm (Aimee Grandmaison)

    Find out what you need to know about your financial aid package at MIT. The Student Financial Services (SFS) staff member will have your personalized package and be able to answer specific questions.
  • UAAP Meet and Greet Dinner: 6 – 8 pm

    Meet the UAAP staff and the students who organized your orientation program. The UAAP houses Freshman and Undergraduate Advising, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), as well as, many other services for you.

Friday, August 28 (W11 - Large Dining Hall)

  • Registration and Transfer Credit: 9:30–11 am (Peter Hayes, Stephen Pepper)

    Learn about the about class registration and the transfer credit process at MIT. 
    Breakfast will be provided.
  • HASS and Communication Requirements Luncheon: 12 – 1:30 pm
    (Kathleen McArthur, Bette Davis)

    Learn about the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, and the Communications Requirement in order to ensure you meet all the graduation requirements! 
  • Undergraduate Administrator Meetings: 2– 4 pm in Various Offices on Campus

    The Academic Administrator of your new department will meet with you and assign a faculty advisor to you within your major. At this point, you should have already been in contact with the administrator in your department.

Sunday, August 30 – September 4

  • We encourage you to attend freshman orientation events throughout the week  Information will be distributed that will benefit you.

Tuesday, September 8

  • Registration Day!  Meet with your department advisor and sign up for classes.

Wednesday, September 9

  • First Day of Classes
