Spanish Requirements

Major
Advisor:  Elizabeth Garrels

A full major in Spanish requires 11 subjects beginning at Level III which may include a pre-thesis and thesis (pre-thesis and thesis are reserved for students who have completed most or all of the subjects offered in a particular language group and demonstrate outstanding competence in the particular field of study. Normally, it is recommended that most students substitute two additional subjects in place of a thesis option).

Minor
Advisor:  Margery Resnick

The HASS Spanish Minor allows students who have reached a level of proficiency equivalent to at least one year of college-level Spanish to continue their study of the language and to deepen their knowledge of the Spanish-speaking world. The Minor Program in Spanish consists of six subjects, typically arranged in three levels of study. Please note that Spanish I and II do not count towards the Minor. At the discretion of the Minor advisor, transfer credit may be used to fulfill a portion of the Minor.

Concentration
Advisor:  Roberto Rey Agudo
Advisor:  Ana YŠñez Rodriguez

There are several concentration options, depending on whether your focus is language or literature and culture. A language concentration consists of 3 or 4 language classes, depending on your incoming language competence. An upper level concentration may include 3rd or 4th semester language plus upper level classes taught in the foreign language. Classes offered in English may, with prior approval, be applied towards fulfilling certain concentration requirements. The Spanish Concentration cannot include both 21F.704 and 21F.705.

Study Abroad
Advisor:  Ana YŠñez Rodriguez

You may also consider spending a summer, a semester, or a year abroad. Credits received from most accredited programs will count towards your major, minor, or concentration if you consult with the Study Abroad Advisor for Spanish prior to your departure.
