Explanations on the simulations:
- Three different zones can be obviously observed.
- Zone I:
In front of the cylinder, standing waves present because the scattered
waves perform like the reflected waves in this zone.
- Zone III: Behind the cylinder, a
shadow zone presents.
- Zone II: Besides these two zones,
the incident waves dominate and the effect of the scattered waves
is weak but can be observed as the point source wave generated from
the center of the cylinder.
- The clarity of the three zones depends on the ratio of radius of the
cylinder to the wave length (ka).
The larger the ratio, the stronger the reflected waves in zone I and
the more obvious the shadow zone. When the ratio is small (1 for example),
only the scattered waves present. The standing waves in Zone I and the
shadow zone are too weak to be seen.
