Making Virtual Reality and Immersive Experiences

Students work with peers from The Berklee College of Music and Harvard University to explore the future of immersive worlds and learning through virtual and augmented reality. We examine human perception and the senses, haptics, and embodiment: the ways in which we express and experience ourselves and others through many forms of media. We pay special attention to 3D audio and psychoacoustics of sound spatialization. The class develops hands-on projects in a lab setting. We learn how to tell stories interactively using 360-degree video and computer-generated environments. Students get access to state-of-the-art equipment and visiting expert mentors.
In this special version for Fall 2020, we will conduct the entire class remotely, much of it in VR, some in Zoom. We will mail an Oculus Quest headset to each admitted student who needs one.
