In today's volatile stock, bond, and foreign exchange markets, financial managers are under greater pressure than ever to employ the latest techniques to hedge their risks and to design tax and financial strategies to support their firm's corporate objectives.

The MIT Sloan School of Management has one of the world's strongest groups of researchers and teachers in the areas of finance and accounting. They place strong emphasis on practical application of advanced theory and statistical studies.

The Finance Research Center (FRC) provides a forum by which financial managers and academics can meet and work together to help solve real-life business problems while expanding the frontiers of knowledge.

Firms that become members of the FRC gain access to the MIT faculty and staff members and their current research.

SEMINARS

The FRC hosts two seminars a year in Cambridge, featuring presentations by leading scholars at MIT and elsewhere in the fields of corporate finance, the securities markets, and risk management. These seminars offer a diversity of views and provide opportunities for informal discussion with the participants.

RESEARCH

The FRC provides corporate members with a flow of current papers written by Sloan School researchers on relevant issues, either in final form or as work in progress. The papers are available as abstracts but full texts can be supplied on request. The FRC will also provide listings of articles in the major academic journals, so those members can keep up generally with the latest work in fields of their interest.

DIRECT MEETINGS

From time to time, MIT faculty and staff members meet directly with corporate members, either at MIT or at the members' offices. These meetings frequently generate new ideas for research, some of which are carried out under the framework of the FRC and some of which are developed into separate projects on a contractual basis. The MIT faculty and staff can provide specific training programs, either on or off campus, also on a contractual basis.

SCHOOL VISITS

Corporate members are also encouraged to visit MIT to play an active role in the School's Financial Management and Financial Engineering tracks. These tracks are designed to prepare students for careers in corporate financial management and investment banking. Such visits may include pro-seminars among students, faculty, and practitioners, discussing issues of importance to the corporate members.

ACCESS TO RESEARCH FACILITIES

The FRC has diverse research capabilities at its command, including the Sloan School Trading Room, which has real-time information on current market developments, historical databases, and up-to-date software. Corporate members are encouraged to avail themselves of these facilities, for FRC projects or in connection with their meetings with faculty members and students.
