INTRODUCTION TO IMAGES MODULE
Note: this module is still under construction.
Rationale
This module is quite different from the others in two ways:
- the materials included are generated by the students themselves (and not
by the authors of Cultura)
- this module can be used several times throughout the use of Cultura
(as opposed to the other modules which constitute specific units)
The goal of IMAGES is twofold:
- to add visual materials to the site. This will add yet another important
and much needed dimension to Cultura .
- to provide students with the opportunity to add their own materials to the
site, thus making them even more part of the project.
These visual materials - which can range from real life scanned materials to photographs
to video documents - are meant to serve as illustrations of any point students
are interested in making. These materials can be posted at any time during the
use of Cultura, and not just at any single, given moment. Students need
to be encouraged to do this, since it is unlikely they will do it on their own
initiative.
Visual materials can be used to illustrate many different things, such as:
- a single word : for instance, students can be encouraged to post pictures
of the suburbs they live in. This would immediately show the differences that
exist between an American "suburb" and a French "banlieue".
- an idea expressed in a forum. A mention of Le Pen, for instance, might prompt
a student to post a photograph of an electoral poster from Le Pen's party,
etc...
