Are there several modes for using Cultura?
There are two major ways in which Cultura can be used:
- as a "live" project, where teachers work with a partner in the foreign country
and where students interact with the students abroad. This live mode is the
preferred mode of usage for Cultura, as it allows students to become personally
involved in constructing their knowledge of the other culture. This adds an
undeniably powerful incentive to their quest for understanding.
- in "closed circuit" (this is the case when teachers do not have a partnership
with a school and class abroad) where students only use the content of Cultura
, analyze it and draw conclusions as to the other culture without the benefit
of a "live" exchange. In that mode, the students will not experience first-hand
an encounter with the other culture. However, they will be able to use the
archived forums as a source of analysis and benefit from those exchanges.
