How much technical knowledge do I need?
Cultura was designed to be easy to use by student, whether or not they have had any prior exposure to extensive use of the web for learning. For faculty using Cultura, we must distinguish between two levels: users and administrators of the project.
For the partner using the project at a distance, without having to install it on a server, the project is no more complicated than for the students. Therefore, little knowledge is required. We suggest that if you are not familiar with the use of the web, you familiarize yourself with the Cultura web site to be able to guide the students but no technology is involved.
For the partner who serves as administrator and has to load the project on a server, we can distinguish between two simple scenarios:
- High involvement with the nuts and bolts of the project is possible if the faculty member has already set-up discussions, search engines and loaded web sites on their campus.
- Low involvement with the technology of the project is also an option
provided you can identify one support staff on campus who will work closely
with you on installing the project, hooking up the technical modules and training
you. This work needs to be done prior to the start of the experiment. During
the semester, little needs to be done until the moment comes to archive the
experiment.
