Have you heard the phrase "a picture is worth a thousand words"? I
think it is easiest to tell the difference between French and American
city centers by comparing pictures:

I also found a couple pictures which nicely illustrate the contrast
between a typical American downtown and suburban neighborhood:

I especially hope you like the picture of Seattle, Washington, because
that's my home state! The observation tower is called the Space
Needle, which "is to Seattle what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris."
