Salut,

Hi from the US,

We are responding to the questions posted by e.chouka.

-We feel that we have been misrepresenteed or that there has been a mistake in the ideas that we have conveyed. The US isn't as superficial as one might say that it is. The only way to get to know the real US is to try to understand us better. We may appear to be superficial, but in all actuality, I bet that we have mroe in common than you might think. . .

-Next, I would like to say that we might have a good police force, but we don't think that it is the best int he world. There are several countries that are just as good as we are if not better, and use different means of enforcing the laws which are equally effective. All the movies that you have seen about police in the US provide an easy way for you to conceive a misconception.

-It is a normal feeling to have opinions about a subject that vary from student to student in a class. Personally, I think that it really depends on the student who you are speaking to. If you look at the responses which you have written, you might see that there are different opinions amongst yourselves as well. No one has exactly the same beliefs and nor should they, diversity is interesting.

I hope that our answers have helped out a little bit and I hope we have cleared up the situation which originally had you confused. Thanks a lot and good bye from the US!! Noah

SALUT!!! We here feel confused and upset that you believe our country to be at such low standards. Have we really sent such a message to our fellow Earth inhabitants? I question you though, if you have ever really visited the US?! If you have I shall respect and understand your opinion. However, if you haven't, I shall know that American media is the true source of your disgust.

The United States is beautiful! We have magnificent seasons and a variety of climates! We have colorful deciduous falls in the Berkshires. Rolling hills and fresh meadows. In our southern states we have pretty beaches and wide oceans on bboth sides of out continent. Alaska, with its grand moutains and cold temperatures, is an example of our winter beauty. The mid west is full of vast fields that stretch farther than you can ever see! Our country is a beautiful example of nature.

Our people are friendly and joyous. We have festivals and holidays. Mardi Gras in Louisiana is a wonderful representation of your culture. We have a great diversity in our peoples. In our cities French, Spanish, Italian, German, English, Polish peoples play great parts.

As for our politic policy and economy, we stand as a protector and "police man of the world." We support and aide many countries. We call for independence and liberty of any oppressed people. For example, we took great part in several wars in Bosnia, Kosovo and the mid-east. Our economy also is thriving and leading the world in business. Our Dow Jones Industrial Average in New York, for example, is much ahead than your CAC-40 in Paris. I don't mean to brag, I'm just trying to say that our countries are not that different. We are not all that bad!! So please, tel me, HAVE YOU EVER VISITED THE US PERSONALLY??? IF SO, WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR NEGATIVE ATTITUDE FROM??? Your Personal American friend, Michael.

I would first like to say that I don't mean to offend you or anything, it's just that I don't understand why you portray such an evil shadow onto our country. I don't know if I'm such a "fanatical patriot," or "chauvin." (Heck, I wasn't even born here!)

But you have answered my question as to how you are getting this negative attitude. YOu say that you have never visited the US but read and believe that which you read in magazines. Media is a conrtolling power and let's you know what they want you to know. They usually greatly exaggerate facts to make them more intersting. Yes, there is a large percentage of people that are obese, but the majority is not! We also have drugs and alcoholism but we try our best to keep those suppressed and the public safe. By only reading magazines and watching TV you are not experiencing the full beauty and potential of the American people. A bientot!!
