The mission of the MIT Motorsports team is to educate students as professional engineers and leaders through the development of a competitive prototype vehicle. Working with the team takes students out of the classroom and allows them to apply textbook theories to real work experience. The MIT Motorsports team designs and builds a small formula-style car from the ground up every year so that we can compete against other teams from around the world. This group has grown from only two freshman students in 2001 to nearly 30 students today, and has placed in the top ten in back to back years at the Formula SAE West Competition, and 16th this past year at the largest competition, Formula SAE Michigan. For the 2012-2013 season MIT Motorsports is going in a completely different direction. We are currently in the process of designing an electric-powered car for the first Formula SAE Electric Competition in the United States, which will be taking place from June 19-22, 2013 in Lincoln, Nebraska. We are excited for this new challenge, and as always have high expectations for ourselves in the next year.
