The MIT Motorsports team began in 2001, and it took two years for the first few team members to learn how to design and build a racecar. The first car built by the team competed at the FSAE Michigan competition in 2003. It used a CBR600f4i Honda engine and boasted a prototype dual plenum intake, a custom-tuned exhaust manifold, and a FEA optimized tube frame. With the level of competition increasing each year, MIT was proud of their first year finish of 97th place overall.
