1 December 2009New England International Auto ShowMIT Motorsports teams up with UMass Lowell and Brown University to represent New England Formula SAE at the New England International Auto Show. The show runs everyday from December 2-6, 2009 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Stop by and try out our newly constructed racing simulator and support New England FSAE. 7 November 2009Bose TestingTaking advantage of warm weather and a generous donation of space, the team spent a day at Bose testing MY10 on a full competition course setup. Thank you Bose for letting us test in your lot! 20 October 2009Website UpdatesThe website has been updated. There is a new link in the news section for adding yourself to the community mailing list. Also, our new shopcam is up, and is streaming 24/7, so check it out in the Gallery section! 11 October 2009Autocross at Devens AirfieldThe team made it out to an SCCA autocross and was able to get three new drivers into the car! It's nice to get out to the track and have some fun after working hard all week. Thanks to SCCA for being so generous with accomodating MIT FSAE. 2 October 2009Data collection SessionAfter a rainy spell here in Cambridge, we finally got back to the asphalt, to gather some important data. Now back to campus to analyze. Yeah, we're nerds. 19 September 2009Awesome testing Session!A wonderful afternoon for racing! So we did. After laying down rubber for 4 hours, we finally had a failure. Good thing, because it was starting to get dark! Back to the shop, fix it up, and see you on the asphalt next weekend! Check back for pictures. 19 September 2009New Member Orientation MeetingJoin the team for our first meeting! Come to the shop to check out some of the projects, see what it takes to build a racecar, and meet the team members. Get a feel for welding, manufacturing, design, building engines and even hear the engine run! The shop is located behind the MIT museum in building N51. Meet Eric "Mother" Correll at 77 Mass. Ave. at 11:30 am and come on down. If you miss him and can't find the shop, call us at 330-MIT-FSAE (330-648-3723). 13 September 2009Team returns from Summer BreakAfter a long summer, the team is back together to begin a new year. The season is started with a day of testing in the rain. With the rain tires installed and the car waterproofed, the team heads out to their local testing lot. After two hours of tire squealing and engine wailing, although soaked head to toe, the two test drivers report that the car runs strong and handles well, even in the wet! 13 May 2008Team Heads to Competition!After months of toil, the team has built, tested, rebuilt, and polished every inch of the car to perfection. The competition at Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, MI begins tomorrow! Let the excitement begin, and good luck to the team! 9 April 2008HMS Motorsport Gives Racing Safety Equipment PresentationAs part of their partnership with MIT Motorsports, HMS Motorsport was gracious enough to come to the shop to guide the team through the process of setting up a proper safety restraint system. 7 April 2008MY08 Frame Powdercoated, Final Assembly BeginsHaving to wear sunglasses due to the awesome glossy glare, the team picked up the frame from powdercoating. Now the exciting part begins...bolting all those shiny parts onto it! Oh yeah, there will be free food too! 21 May 2007Team returns home from 2007 CompetitionAlthough the team did not complete all of the events at competition due to some minor mechanical dificulties, the team still made a lot of progress, especially in the design presentation score. The team is very excited to have some fun with the 2007 car during local autocross events throughout the summer, as this is the fastest, lightest, most powerful, and *most importantly* fun to drive car yet to roll out of our shop! 15 May 2007Team heads to Romeo, MI for 2007 CompetitionWith very little sleep on tap, the 2007 MIT car # 22 is finally strapped down very cozily in our trailer, and is jammin' on down the road for not a lot of bread. The team is very excited about competition, as the 2007 car is the best product of MIT FSAE yet. Stay tuned for results! 9 May 2007Car #22 Finally comes to life!With great enthusiasm, the team heads out with the car for its maiden voyage. Being one of the best 'shakedown' sessions for the team to date, only minor adjustments were necessary. 24 September 2006Frame Fabrication BeginsWith the construction of the front roll hoop at Saturday's meeting the construction of the frame has formally begun. Look for quick progress on the frame as tubes are ground. Remember, keep your joints tight or the welders won't be happy! 11 September 2006Come to our information sessionStop by room 4-232 at 8pm on September 12th for a formal information session for new members. We'll be location just outside the front door for the duration of the event. 6 July 2006MIT FSAE begins search for new membersAre you an incoming or current MIT student that likes to build things for fun, enjoys racing, or wants to learn a lot about the design and fabrication of complex machinery? You'll be right at home with the FSAE team as we build the model year 2007 car. Keep an eye out for meeting announcements around campus and here. 12 June 2006Team returns from Detroit with new ideas and plans for 2007Coming off a strong design in 2006 the engineers at MIT motorsports begin work on model year 2007. Utilizing last year’s major leap in design this year will be focused on incremental improvements combined with improved system and vehicle testing. 1 January 2006FSAE and the Mechanical Engineering Department collaborate on coursesDuring the fall term, the FSAE team and Prof. Alexander Slocum have collaborated to bring MIT course credit for participation in the FSAE program. Prof. Slocum's course, 2.75 Precision Machine Design, was the first such try where students were able to get to work on the design and prototyping of major components and assemblies on the FSAE race car. We would like to thank Prof. Slocum and the Mechanical Engineering Department for this opportunity to incorporate FSAE into the MIT curriculum. 1-2 September 2005Activities Midway and Shop ToursThe team opened up its shop during Orientation Week for new students to visit and see the car and facilities. Also, the team had the 2005 car showed at the Activities Midway to raise awareness and aid in recruitment for new members. 24-27 June 2005ZF Project Management WorkshopJoe Audette, Chris Graff, Jim Cuseo, Joe Walish, and Jim Otten attended a Project Management workshop in Friedrichshafen, Germany, graciously sponsored by ZF, Lufthansa, and MIT-Germany. At the workshop, the team members met with TU-Munich and RWTH-Aachen in an exchange of experiences and ideas. ZF arranged for all of the team members to work with a project management consultant in an effort to improve our organizational processes. The team hopes to foster a relationship with MIT-Germany and ZF Group for future workshops and other opportunities. 18-22 May 2005Formula SAE Competition - Detroit, MichiganThe MIT team attended their third competition during the end of May with 24 student members and their 2005 racecar. The overall team performance improved again, with a final placing of 34th out of 126 competitors, with 515.91 points out of 1000. With all of the other universities greatly elevating their competitive levels, the MIT team was pleased with an improvement in 7 positions and 103.01 points overall from 2004. Highlights included 32nd in Presentation, 35th in Acceleration, 46th in Skidpad, and 29th in Endurance and Economy events. 9 April 2005MIT Motorsports hosts CPW event, shakes down 2005 vehicleCampus Preview Weekend gives prospective incoming students the ability to visit MIT before they make the final decision about school. What better way to show off MIT than to demonstrate the 2005 vehicle! The team hosted pre-frosh throughout the day, giving shop tours and allowing them a peak at the 2005 car in action. Maybe some of the aspiring engineers met today will be future team members in 2006 and beyond. 6 April 2005Joe Audette, Chris Graff present to Aero/Astro DepartmentIn an effort to integrate Formula SAE into the academic curriculum, Joseph Audette and Chris Graff presented several ideas to the faculty and administration of the Aero/Astro Department. It is the hope of Chris and Joe that this presentation is a first step to gain faculty support for integration into future coursework. A summer UROP optimizing wings for the 2005 car has already been approved by Professor Oli deWeck and is currently seeking funding. 25 March 2005Red Bull, Lista International – Join MIT Motorsports TeamMIT Motorsports is pleased to announce the addition of two new sponsors for the 2005 year. Both Red Bull and Lista International have made product donations. Mr. Cowger was in town for a lecture on leading in a new world of communications.
