SAP ITS Request Procedures

What is SAP ITS?

The SAP Internet Transaction Server (ITS) converts SAP screens into HTML format making it possible to access SAP systems with user-friendly web technology.

What are SAP ITS objects?

These are the service files, templates, and mimes used by a web server to present an application to a client web browser. SAPweb and SAPweb Self-Service applications are Internet Application Components (IAC) which use ITS objects. Most of the objects are custom objects, but we do use some SAP- delivered ones as well.

Who can submit an ITS update request?

All ITS updates are coordinated by the Web Services Team. The types of update requests and who can request them are:

• From SF2its > SF5its, any web application developer in the Web Services Team can request the update.
• From SF5its > PS1its, the update request must be sent to a person on the ITS authorization list at https://asst.mit.edu/its/its-authorized-transporters.

How do I request ITS updates from Development (SF2) to Quality Assurance (SF5)?

Send email to asst-help@mit.edu and cc: its-transport@mit.edu, the Group Lead, and Tech Lead for the development. The email should contain a list of the directories or files to be copied from the SF2its directories into the corresponding directories of SF5its. The requestor must be a person on the ITS authorization list at https://asst.mit.edu/its/its-authorized-transporters.

How do I request ITS updates from Quality Assurance (SF5) to Production (PS1)?

An update request must be sent to an ITS Production approver (see list at https://asst.mit.edu/its/its-authorized-transporters). The approver reviews the requests and forwards the mail to asst-help, its-transports, and fss-chg requesting that the list of directories or files be copied from the SF5its directories into the corresponding directories of PS1its.

When are the updates applied?

SF2its > SF5its updates occur twice daily, Monday - Friday between 5:30-7:30am and 1:30-2:00pm.
SF5its > PS1its updates occur weekly, Friday at 7:30am.
Emergency ITS updates may be requested at anytime.

Can an update occur only to the Internet Transaction Server?

Yes, these updates affect the ITS templates or the web pages "look and feel."

How does an update occur to the SAP Internet Transaction Server and the application database?

ITS objects are moved from one ITS environment to another by manual copy and R3 transports by the established SAP transport process. If ITS objects and R3 transports need to migrate in sync between environments, arrangements must be made with R3-Admin and asst-help to coordinate efforts.
