Presentation FormatsWe invite proposals for presentations on humor as a political tool or subversive strategy. Graduate students, advanced undergraduates, performers, practitioners, artists, and activists are encouraged to examine, reflect upon, or demonstrate the uses of jokes, irony, satire, parody, and performance from a literary, theatrical, multimedia, historical, scientific, sociological, anthropological, or interdisciplinary perspective. Hands-on workshop proposals also accepted. Presentations may take three formats: individual papers, prepared performances, and workshops. 250-word presentation abstracts are due on February 15, 2008. The conference will begin on the evening of April 4 and extend all day on April 5. It will take place at MIT. Presenters are encouraged to attend as many of the conference events as they can throughout the weekend. Individual Papers: Opportunities for meeting fellow panelists, workshopping papers and presentations, and working with mentors on presentation style and format may be available. More information will be provided upon acceptance of your proposal. Prepared Performances: Workshops: DeadlinesPriority deadlines are as follows: Notification of proposal acceptance will occur no later than March 1, 2008. Please submit a 250-word abstract with title for proposals for individual presentations and workshops using the submission form below or email directly to gcws@mit.edu . Workshops and performances should include bios for each of the presenters and a brief description of the topic as well as the activities that will occur. All presentations must include a list of AV needs you will have. Please also include a short biographical statement.
