The GCWS conference is an event organized by and for graduate students to feature graduate student work in Women’s and Gender Studies.
There is a strong focus on graduate student leadership. Student organizers participate in all aspects of conference planning from the initial conception; to the logistics and implementation; to choreographing the culminating panel presentations and events. The format, structure, and theme for each conference is co-developed by student organizers in consultation with the GCWS staff and Board of Directors, and students from across the U.S. attend, present, and facilitate discussions.
Our focus is interdisciplinary Women’s and Gender Studies scholarship. All conference themes address gender analysis and integrate it with issues of class, race, culture, ethnicity, nation, and sexualities, feminist theory, policy, and/or activism.
Conference organizers are graduate students from GCWS member institutions. To find out more about the conference organizing process or join next year’s team, email the GCWS.
It's wonderful to put my own ideas about gender and sexuality into perspective (and to stretch them) by learning about how they are "treated" in other fields, especially in collaboration with others.”

“The student panels offered a great diversity of topics that were so integrated thematically, and the quality was quite impressive!”
