Student Services
The Global Education Office is the first place students can go for information and advice on how to go global. The GEO team offers students one-on-one advising sessions to help them identify and explore the global opportunities that best fit their needs in terms of their academic plans as well as their professional goals.
In order to help you prepare for a meaningful and successful time abroad, our team gives advice in many areas, including the following:
> Program information and requirements
> Passport and visa information
> Health and safety planning
> Scholarship and funding opportunities
> Transfer credit procedures
> Housing information
> Connecting students to other MIT students abroad
> Cost-saving ideas for living overseas
In addition to personalized advising, the GEO offers a series of presentations and workshops throughout the academic year to introduce students to the wide range of opportunities to go overseas, including opportunities to apply for distinguished fellowships such as the Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships. The GEO also offers a Pre-Departure Orientation every semester for students who are going overseas. In this orientation, we go over the important considerations of traveling and living abroad, such as culture shock, financial matters, health and safety issues, and logistical issues such as what to pack, among others. We will also help you to define and set goals for your overseas experience--- a valuable tool in making your time abroad more meaningful.
Last but not least, the GEO facilitates a Re-Entry Meeting for students who have gone abroad, to help you re-adjust and connect with other students who have similar experiences. In this way, we help you leave and also return.
