Galectin9 (Lgals9)

Galectin9 is a member of a rapidly growing family of mammalian lectins whose members bind to carbohydrates in a Ca++-independent manner. Analysis of the murine gene and its protein reveals the presence of two distinct N- and C-terminal b-galactoside-binding domains connected by a linker of various lengths in alternatively spliced isoforms isolated from different tissues.

We obtained a Galectin9 insertional null mutant mouse line from a commercial supplier. This particular line has a retroviral insertion between exons 3 and 4, disrupting gene expression. A description of the vector and the strategy employed to create the insertion can be found in Zambrowicz B, et al. Nature. 1998;392:608-611. [Pub Med]
