Fellowship
Every year we have a panel of fellowship-holders give advice to students who are applying for fellowships. The following are sample essays from students who have obtained fellowships:

2007 Fellowship Overview

Student 1 - 2006 NSF
Student 2 - 2007 NSF
Student 3 - 2004 NSF
Student 4 - 2004 NDSEG
Student 5 - 2001 Hertz
Student 6 - 2005 DHS
Student 7 - 2005 NSF
Student 8 - NDSEG

Mentorship
Every first year graduate student is paired up with an older graduate student mentor based on research interests, home country, and other interests. We hope that the mentors will be active in first year grads' academic lives, answering questions about classes, written and oral quals, life at MIT, research advisors, and fellowships.

Literature Search
DMSE's librarian, Angie Locknar (locknar[at]mit.edu), is available to give workshops about how to conduct literature searches, how to use citation managers, and other resources at MIT.

Oral Quals
Second year graduate students taking oral quals have many resources available to them, including graduate students who have already passed oral quals, archived notes, and study sessions with older graduate students. Contact the Academic Chair, Karen Shu (kshu[at]mit.edu) for more information.
