Attracting and Generating Economic Activity

The Institute contributes significantly to the state and local economy. In Cambridge alone, MIT-related companies have generated thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in sales. MIT owns property in eight Massachusetts communities, paying taxes on its commercial property and offering payments in lieu of taxes for property that is legally tax-exempt.
