I was born in Kortrijk (Belgium) and raised in a peaceful town, called Wielsbeke. I was a curious boy, intrigued by the beauty and complexity of the daily routines and eager to find out how stuff works. As a young boy I also picked up a passion for sports and started playing soccer from the age of 6. I took elementary school in Wielsbeke and secondary school at the former Sint-Jozefsinstituut in Kortrijk. I finished my studies obtaining a master degree in chemical engineering at the Univeristy of Gent, Belgium. Bitten by the research-virus, I opted for a PhD focusing on understanding how sulfur additives influence the thermal cracking of hydrocarbons. During my third year I applied for a 3 month visit to professor Green’s research group. Using their Reaction Mechanism Generator (RMG) I try to derive reaction networks for the thermal decomposition of the sulfur additives.
