Hello!  I’m Barb Balkwill, administrative assistant for the Green Group.  MIT has been my home away from home for a long time – 25 years now. I have been working in the Department of Chemical Engineering (ChemE) with the Green Group since July, 2006, and it is one of the best places I've ever worked.

I have worked in several departments, labs, and centers at MIT since I started back in 1984; Center for Space Research (now the Kavli Institute for Astrophysics), the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences, the Lab for Computer Science (now CSAIL), the Alumni Association, and now the ChemE.

I’m married to Dave Balkwill, an MIT alum (Masters, Aero-Astro ‘92), who works at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, and we live in Waltham, MA.  We have a 29 year old daughter, Wendy, and a wonderful son-in-law, Andy, and the sweetest little granddaughter (Lilly, with me in the picture above) anyone could hope for. We also serve as staff for two rescued cats, Bogie and Bacall, who have been with us almost 5 years and are finally starting to trust us and really seem to look forward to seeing us for more than just food delivery.

My winter project for this year is to make a rose arbor for my front yard. I found the plans recently and my husband will assist me in refresher courses with power tools.
