I was born and raised in Southern California (in the heart of San Bernardino County, the Inland Empire).  I attended the University of California, Berkeley, where I received my B.S. in Chemical Engineering in May 2005.  During my junior and senior years, I conducted research in biocatalysis under Prof. Douglas Clark and Umar Akbar.

I enrolled at MIT in the fall of 2005.  I was fortunate enough to join the Green Group in January of 2006.  My thesis is entitled “Constructing an Extensible CyberInfrastructure.”  The overall goal of my thesis is to link our group’s Reaction Mechanism Generator (RMG) with the Process Informatics Model (PrIMe) warehouse (http://www.primekinetics.org/).

Projects I am presently working on include: cleaning the PrIMe warehouse of duplicate entries; adding new species data file types, in particular, spectroscopy files; and updating RMG to use a unique species identifier, an InChI (http://www.iupac.org/inchi/).

If you have any questions regarding the InChI, the PrIMe project, or why I continue to move to colder climates, please email me at mrharper AT mit DOT edu.
