Around MIT

We hold several events in Green Hall, averaging to about 1 in 2 weeks. We usually hold dorm dinners once a month & have frequent outings (to the ballet, apple picking etc.).  We also encourage our residents to attend the weekly coffee hours (on Thursday evenings) at Ashdown and their biweekly Sunday brunches. Take a look at Past Events to see a sample of some of the events that we've conducted in the recent years.

Announcements

We have a new vacuum cleaner for the dorm, courtesy Soosan. Its a "Hoover Bagless Upright" which has all the fancy tubes that can be used to clean corners etc.
1. Please clean the dirt cup (the front portion) after every use.
2. If the machine sucks in anything accidentally (for e.g. shoe laces or carpet thread ends), don't try to pull it out while the machine is running, since this will spoil the motors. First switch the machine off and then pull it out.

Green Hall's pledge for September 11th :

"Green Hall would like to express solidarity with

the entire world community on the anniversary of

the September 11th terrorist attack by organizing

a token pledge to collect food and clothing for

less fortunate individuals in the Greater Boston area."

As part of Green Hall's "Shared Commitment for the Future," we will be having a used clothing (and other needed items) drive over the next 2 weeks.

We will be collecting items for the Salvation Army, which sells used items at their thrift store to benefit alcohol and drug treatment programs.

As of today, there is one marked box at the first floor lounge near the mailboxes. Over the next few days, as I locate additional boxes, I will place one box on each floor. If you have an empty cardboard box in your office or room, please let me know so that I can avoid dumpster diving expeditions.

The final collection date will be Friday, September 27 (extended to Friday, October 4th). Please keep in mind that we will also appreciate volunteers to help deliver the items to the Massachusetts Avenue location (2 blocks north of campus).

The Salvation Army needs the following :

Clothing of all types , Furniture, Appliances (must be in working order), Household Items, Shoes, Books, Jewelry and Accessories, Toys and Games, Sporting Goods

Any donations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for participating.
