Recycling FAQ

The position of recycling officer is still open. Please inform one of the officers if you're interested.

There are two groups of recyclables:

(1) all paper and cardboard
(2) glass, metal, plastics 1 through 7

These groups are collected in two separate bins that are located in front of each kitchen.

Rules of thumb for recycling:

(1) put only clean stuff - no paper where food was wrapped, rinse where possible --> want to know why?

(2) separate! Don't put a plastic bag which contains paper in the paper bin. --> want to know why?

(3) for plastics and metals:
-> "plastic 1-7" refers to the number that is in the recycling sign on the plastic container.

-> rinse the container
-> squeeze the air out.  Crush the container!  It saves space.

DONT PUT IN ANY OF THE RECYCLING BINS...

(no) waxed card board, i.e. card board that can contain fluids (NO JUICE BOXES)

(no) electronic waste -> belongs to normal waste as long as it is not hazardous waste

(no) food - not even traces. -> want to know why?

(no) fibers: ceiling tiles, textiles, asbestos :)

(no) foamed materials: some containers from food trucks, styrofoam
