Who we are Events Facilities Government

Some items concerning general courtesy and conflict resolution to keep our dorm as nice and friendly as it is:

General Courtesy:

1.Male visitors are allowed to use the small bathrooms on each floor (or obviously the ones in your rooms if you live in a double).

2.Keep the kitchens and bathroom clean. CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF or the mice we try to hard to keep away will keep coming back!!!

3.Don't use tape to hang things on the walls since it mars the paint. Push pins and picture hangers with nails are fine.

4.Keep things quiet between midnight and 8 AM. Also remember that around here people could be asleep at any time of the day or night just as they are awake at any time.

5.Leave the lounge furniture in the lounges.

6.There is no smoking in common areas (kitchens, lounges, hallways, bathrooms). However, what you do in your own room is your business.

7.Personal property, whether it's a picture on someone's door or things in the kitchen or bathroom, should not be taken or tampered with.

8.The front door is locked for a reason. If you let someone in, that person becomes your responsibility while they are in the building - whether or not you know them.

9.Institute regulations forbid transferring, subletting, or sharing a room with an unassigned person. Overnight guests are not allowed on a long term (i.e. more than a weekend) or permanent basis. A limited number of cots are available on a first come first serve basis - contact Maria if you need one.

10. No pets are allowed in Green Hall.

Conflict Resolution:

If a conflict arises and you want to do something about it, the general path is:

1.Try to resolve the problem by going directly to the parties involved or holding a floor meeting if it is a floor-wide problem.

2.If you can't resolve it yourself and would like an intermediary, ask Anne and/or Bill for help. If you need a more definite decision, contact the chair of the Judicial Committee. The Judicial Committee chair will try to sort things out and she can form a committee to review the problem and make an official ruling on the issue.

3.If you are not satisfied with the in house solutions, you can go to the Dean's office. Don't go to the Dean's office first because they are not the ruling body in the house and they are busy.

Try to solve things on the smallest scale possible first, and then work your way up the chain of command.
