GSC Elections 2006 - Overview

This page of the GSC website is dedicated to the 2006 Elections of the Graduate Student Council.

Please feel free to download and read the Election Letter and the Election Protocol Document. These documents define the rules and regulations of the Graduate Student Council Elections. All Council Representatives ("GSC Representatives") are expected to read these documents prior to the Elections. Please be aware that the deadline for new GSC Representatives to apply and get voting privileges for the Officers election is March 1st 2006 at 5pm.

Executive Committee Chairs Elections for 2006-2007

The Academics, Research and Careers committee will be holding its elections on: March 9, 2006.
The Activities committee will be holding its elections on: March 15, 2006.
The Housing and Community Affairs committee will be holding its elections on: March 23, 2006.
The Muddy Charles Pub committee will be holding its elections on: TBD.
The Orientation committee will be holding its elections on: TBD.

Other elections:
The Graduate Student News will be selecting its editors on: April 11, 2006.
The Association of Student Activities will be holding its elections on: April 24, 2006.



Officer Elections for 2006-2007

Elections for new officers for the 2006-2007 term will be held at the April General Council Meeting on April 5th, 2006. Nominations will open at the March General Council Meeting on March 1st, 2006. Information on the current nominations is included below, following a brief description of each position. For more general descriptions of the Officer positions, please visit our Officers Information Page.

UPDATE: The Secretary and Treasurer positions were not filled during the April 5 elections. A special GCM has been scheduled for April 19, 2006 at 5:30pm in the GSC Office (50-220) to elect these positions.

The Election Letter and the Election Protocol Document define the rules and regulations of the Officers Elections. GSC Representatives are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the voting procedure and the election ballot information before the Election General Council Meeting.

Nominations will open at the March GCM, March 1st 2006, and close at 5:00 pm on March 29th, 2005.

New GSC Representatives must submit their application prior to March 1st 2006 in order to gain voting privileges at the Officers Election.

President

The President is the chief officer of the GSC and is ultimately responsible for carrying out its mission. The President is the principal liaison to the MIT Senior Administration and the MIT Corporation, as well as any bodies external to MIT.

Vice-President

The Vice-President assists the President in carrying out the GSC's mission. The Vice President is the primary liaison to departments and Departmental Student Groups, and coordinates the GSC Nominations Committee, which provides student representation on Institute Committees.

Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for communications with the general student body, and for the Graduate Student Newsletter. The Secretary also oversees the GSC mailing lists and the GSC website.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for the finances of the GSC, and for setting up a budget for its activities. The Treasurer coordinates the GSC Funding Board, which allocates funds to student groups. The Treasurer is the principal liaison to student groups and interacts most closely with the Association of Student Activities.
