The mission of the Office of the Dean for Graduate Education is to enhance the educational and cultural experiences of MIT's graduate students. This mission comprises seven components.

The ODGE:

  • ensures consistent standards and procedures across the Institute with respect to the organization, requirements, and operating rules for graduate education
  • exercises wise stewardship of internal and external funds entrusted to the office for financial support of graduate students
  • supports students who are having difficulties in their academic and co-curricular activities
  • works with academic departments to increase the representation and the ongoing support of minority and women students
  • assists departments in addressing the unique needs of international students
  • seeks to expose students to a broad range of cultural and disciplinary ideas
  • provides efficient and friendly administrative services
