Offering a broad range of services, the ODGE:

  • supplements the advising and counseling services of the individual departments
  • ensures consistency in the administration of graduate school policies and practices
  • oversees RA and TA appointments
  • administers internal and external scholarships/fellowships and other financial resources
  • processes student petitions (late adds/drops; dual degrees/credit transfers; leaves: doctoral, medical, thesis in absentia)
  • provides information about competitive fellowships
  • provides graduate and pre-professional advising for prospective graduate students
  • offers enrichment and professional development programs
  • develops programs and services tailored for women and underrepresented minorities
  • addresses the unique needs of international students

The ODGE also:

  • represents MIT's graduate programs at college fairs, professional meetings, and in national organizations
  • recruits qualified students for MIT's graduate programs, with a focus on women and underrepresented minorities
  • maintains a running dialogue with the administration of other academic institutions
  • recruits and sponsors interns for a summer research program designed for prospective graduate students, with emphasis on underrepresented minorities
