I am an international student, can I apply to the MSRP?
If you are not a US citizen, then you must have applied for, or received permanent residency for the United States. If you have not yet been granted your permanent residency, you may still apply but you will be asked for proof of application.
I am more interested in biology-related research. Is there a place for me within the MSRP?
Yes. The MIT Summer Research Program in the Biological Sciences and Related Fields is offered through the Department of Biology. More information can be found by visiting MSRP in Biology.
When will I find out if I am accepted into the program?
Students will be notified of their acceptance into the program by mid-March.
How are research advisors chosen?
Ultimate advisor selection rests with the MSRP admissions committee; however, students should visit the MIT research website and identify at least three potential research areas.
If accepted into the MSRP, does that guarantee admission into MIT for graduate school?
No. All MSRP interns will have an opportunity to interact with a number of MIT faculty, administrators and graduate students. However, acceptance into the MSRP does NOT guarantee admission into MIT for graduate school.
Is this program available for graduate students?
The MIT Summer Research Program is only for non-MIT undergraduate students.
Can I send in an unofficial transcript?
No. We need an official transcript. Copies may be submitted until originals are available. Applications will not be considered complete until originals are submitted.
I am not a member of a minority group. May I still apply?
Yes, however the program targets students who are members of groups underrepresented in graduate education.
I have more than one area of interest, should I include them all?
Yes. Please provide as much information as you can to aid the institution in the selection process. It is also best to be as specific as possible in order to appropriately match you with a faculty mentor.
How long do I have to accept an offer?
Once you are notified of admission into the MSRP, you will have one week to accept.
