The role of the Dean for Graduate Education is to provide a senior voice on behalf of graduate student issues and concerns and to work with the Graduate Student Council to articulate relevant matters to senior administration.

The Office of the Dean for Graduate Education serves as the local fiscal agent for a wide variety of federal, foundation, and corporate sources of graduate financial support. The Dean also stewards a broad range of endowed funds in support of graduate tuition and stipends, and manages the appropriate disposition of those resources. Additionally, the Dean serves on the Committee on Graduate Programs; has administrative oversight of appointments to the graduate teaching and research staff; provides technical assistance to departments with respect to recruitment of women and minority graduate students; assists departments and programs with outreach to prospective students; and provides advice and counsel to faculty, administrators, and students with regard to the rights and responsibilities of graduate students.
