Can I take a light course load for a semester? For an academic year?

MIT does not permit light course loads, that is, less than the full time course load normally expected by your department or program, for graduate students. If you are unable to support a full course load, you have the option of withdrawing for a term or a year; see your graduate administrator for further details.
