  • February 16, 2002 - Bread and Jams, Inc. Group Leader: Julie Claycomb. On Saturday, February 16th, a group of nine grad students went to Bread and Jams, Inc., the homeless shelter in the basement of the Old Cambridge Baptist Church, to help with renovations. Those present included Julie Wallace, Alex Ensminger, Aaron Aslanian, Irena Ivanvovska, Joe Pacheco, Paul Herz, Matt Wong,, Dav Clark, and Julie Claycomb. The group worked from 9 am to 1:30 pm on projects that included smashing and removing ceiling panels so that the electrical system could be re-wired. The group also helped in sweeping and cleaning the hallways of the shelter and assisted in odd jobs such as removing 600 pound steel beams from the church and moving large dirt mounds on the premises. The efforts of the group were greatly appreciated by church and shelter members, who claimed that their work was cut in half by the group’s help. Group members felt that the work was very worthwhile and enjoyable, as well as being good exercise! Many said they would like to help with more events of the same nature in the future.
  • October 28th, 2001. BREAD AND JAMS CONCERT FOR THE HOMELESS - 10am
    • We served as tech crew, hauling around all the sound and lighting equipment to set up for the concert. We striked the stage. The concert was on Boston Common and could be generally classified as a "rock" concert.
  • BREAD AND JAMS/FOOD NOT BOMBS DINNER SERVICE - Sundays
    • Food not bombs distributes vegetarian food (largely reclaimed from food which would have been thrown away by restaurants/stores) to homeless clients (among other things). We helped out with service.
