Development of Dynamic Materials for Chronic Wound Healing


The wound healing process is an intricate integration of events involving a multitude of cells, growth factors and enzymes. Diabetic individuals possess an increased risk of dysfunction in this highly complex process, which can lead to the development of chronic ulcerations. These diabetic ulcers affect ~15% of patients, and are a leading cause of amputation.

The layer-by-layer (LbL) platform provides the opportunity to integrate temporally distinct therapeutic profiles, which can potentially be used to recreate the healing cascade. The focus of this work is to develop an LbL platform that can elucidate the key sequence of therapeutics necessary to drive optimal healing of chronic wounds.
