Postdoctoral and Research
Scientist Openings
Currently there
are two openings in the Hammond Group:
1-)
Announcing a joint postdoctoral research associate position in the
Hammond research group in the Chemical Engineering Department at MIT and
the research group of Angela Belcher in Materials Science and
Engineering Department, MIT. The work would be primarily focused on the
selective adsorption, deposition and patterning of thin films using
polyion layer-by-layer adsorption, microcontact printing, nanopatterning,
and using materials systems such as colloids, inorganic clusters,
nanotubes and non-infectious virus systems as biotemplates for inorganic
systems. This work would explore photovoltaic applications as part of
the MIT Energy Initiative.
2-) Research Scientist needed in collaborative MIT-Portugal
Program project between Prof. Paula Hammond (MIT), Prof. Linda Griffith
(MIT), and Prof Ana A. Ricardo (Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisbon,
Portugal). The researcher to be contracted will be based in the labs of
Prof. Ana Ricardo in Lisbon, but require training and extended periods
of research at the MIT labs of Griffith and Hammond. The research
scientist will be involved with the joint research project and will also
participate actively in the teaching activities of Bio-Engineering
Advanced Studies Course Program (Nanobiotechnology and Biomaterials
module) so excellent communication skills are also desirable. See
details below:
Within the frame of the MIT-Portugal Program a researcher position in
Bio-Engineering Systems is open at Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia,
Universidade Nova de Lisboa. This vacancy will correspond to an
assistant researcher position in the Portuguese university system and
will be yearly renewable until August 2011.
The Bio-Engineering Researcher is expected to develop teaching, research
and support activities within the Bio Agenda, namely:
Curricular development of Bio-Engineering Systems courses, including
those associated to the advanced studies in the Focus Area, namely
Biomaterials area.
supervision (or co-supervision) of post-graduate students involved in
the Bio-Engineering activities;
planning, management and implementation of research projects within
Bio-Engineering target areas;
organization of Bio-Engineering seminars and other promotion and
dissemination initiatives.
Applicants should hold a PhD degree in engineering or science.
Individuals with degrees in materials science, mechanical engineering,
chemical engineering, polymer engineering, or chemistry are preferred.
Desirable qualifications include laboratory experience in synthesizing
and processing hydrogels and bio-based polymers, experience with polymer
characterization, and excellent communication skills.
Selection requisites include:
Availability to spend training periods at MIT (typically from 2 to 6
months)
Previous experience in recruiting and managing research projects
Record of publications in ISI web of Science
This Researcher ship is a full time commitment. Other activities are
subject to previous authorization of the MIT-Portugal authorities.
The successful candidate will receive a salary as Assistant Researcher
(equivalent to Assistant Professor). Work will start immediately upon
candidate selection.
Please send a detailed CV before April 15th, 2008.
