Millions of people in Bangladesh and West Bengal are poisoned by well-water with high arsenic concentrations. Thousands will die a year from arsenic-induced cancer. Like other health crises in developing countries, this problem could be remedied by a remarkably small investment per person.
Our work focusses on determining the causes of very high concentrations of arsenic in groundwater.
We are also interested in finding sources of safe drinking water and in the fate of arsenic in irrigation water.
