Taylor Bailey

Taylor combines his interests in environmental history, the history of science, and medicine to explore the ways in which the care and display of wildlife has evolved from the nineteenth century to the present. His current project examines the history of veterinary medicine and husbandry in zoos, aquariums, and marine parks, with a particular focus on epidemiology, behavior management, breeding, nutrition, and habitat design. He is also interested in how cultural views of animals, political movements, and legislation have influenced wild animal exhibition.

Taylor received his B.A. in Political Science from Otterbein University and his M.A. in History from Portland State University.
