Chihyung Jeon studies the history of science and technology in the twentieth century. He attempts to analyze the historical formation of the identity of airplane pilots as heroic explorers, military aces, machine operators, wage laborers, and/or the new species of human beings for the "modern" age. He also wants to examine scientific research projects in which airplane pilots were involved, either as research subjects (e.g. physiological study on the pilot's body) or as scientific technicians (e.g. meteorological observation in the upper-air). Other research interests include technology and modernity; pedagogy, training, and simulation; and science and technology in East Asia .
