Research Summary:
Various uses of light-sensitive surfactants are investigated, including
reversible gels formed by mixtures of these surfactants and ampiphilic
polymers.  Complexes between the surfactants and polymers can form or break, depending on illumination conditions.  This action corresponds to the formation or breaking of physical crosslinks between the polymer strands.  The gelation process is studied on a molecular scale using NMR, and applications in delivery or separations are explored.
