Steven Ostrow has filled a variety of teaching positions in ancient and medieval history at MIT since 1991. During 2006-07 he will teach 21H.301 and 302: "The Ancient World: Greece" and "Rome." He received the B.A. degree from Brown University and his graduate degrees from the University of Michigan (M.A. in Classical Studies, Ph.D. in Classical Art and Archaeology). His fields of interest lie in Greek and Roman History and Archaeology. He has worked at excavation sites in Italy, Libya, Tunisia, and Cyprus, as well as leading numerous study programs based in Rome and the Bay of Naples area over the past thirty-five years. In January 2006 he was the founding co-director (with Prof. Will Broadhead) of MIT's new "IAP-in-Ancient-Italy" program. His publications include articles and reviews that have appeared in Puteoli , Historia , Journal of the Classical Association of New England , American Journal of Archaeology , and the volume Toward a New Assessment of Augustus and His Principate (edd. K. Raaflaub and M. Toher).
