Welcome to HMMT's November tournament (HMNT)!

Over the past five years, our February tournament has become wildly successful, attracting teams from around the nation and overseas. While we're thrilled that so many schools are traveling so far to come to our contest, the problems have become increasingly difficult to reflect the new competition, and it is becoming hard for local schools to compete. As such, we decided to make a new competition in 2008, exclusively for local students, and will be running a similar tournament in 2009.

The 2009 November Tournament will take place on Saturday, November 7th at MIT.

In the interest of keeping the tournament competitive for all local teams, we have a number of restrictions on who may compete at the November tournament. Top-performing students from our February tournament will not be allowed to compete at our November tournament. We do, however, welcome teams of less experienced students from those schools. See below for details.

See this November's program for the schedule, room assignments, and a map of MIT.

For a description of our general contest rules, and for examples of previous questions, check out the links to the right. However, note these important differences:

  • Participation is limited to schools within a 75 mile radius of Cambridge.
  • Any competitors who were members of a top 10 team or who placed in the top 10 individuals at a previous HMMT may not compete. They are, however, welcome to proctor and otherwise staff the tournament. Such students should contact us if they would like to help out.
  • "Top 10 Team" refers to a top 10 team overall. That is, the top 10 ranking teams regardless of their division, determined by overall sweepstakes score. Similarly, "top 10 individuals" refers to aggregate individual score, not scores on individual subject tests.
  • Members of top 10 teams at previous November competitions are welcome to compete again this year, as are top 10 individuals from previous November competitions.
  • There will be a maximum of 6 people on each team (a school can still send several teams). New in 2009, there is a minimum of 4 students/team.
  • Individuals are welcome and encouraged to sign up. We will place you on a team on the morning of the contest.
  • All students will take the same "general test" for the individual round, instead of choosing from several different subject tests.
  • All teams will take the same team test.
  • All test rounds will be significantly easier than those of our February tournament.
  • The cost is $20/team, and $5/individual.
