Welcome to HMMT's Online Tournament (HMOT)!

For the past few years, HMMT has drawn an ever-increasing number of teams from across the country and across the world. However, while our ultimate goal is to spread a love for and interest in mathematics, limitations on physical space and labor prevent us from allowing every team that wishes to compete to attend our February competition. Additionally, while we restrict our November competition to teams within 75 miles of Cambridge, we understand that there are teams outside the radius who would like to participate. Therefore, to allow those unable to attend either of our competitions to share in the challenge and excitement of our contests, we are announcing the creation of the completely informal and unofficial Harvard-MIT Online Tournaments. There are no registration fees to participate, and there are no prizes awarded, except the recognition of the top-performing teams and individuals on our website.

Here is some important information about the Online Tournaments:

  • The Online Tournaments will take place on the same days as the on-site November and February tournaments. These are Saturday, November 7, 2009 and Saturday, February 20, 2010. In order to maintain the integrity of our on-site competitions, the Online Tournaments will be slightly delayed from the real-time competitions.
  • Teams for the Online Tournaments should comprise of legitimate Harvard-MIT Math Tournament teams. Specifically, teams for the online November contest should be of no more than 6 students, and teams for the online February contest should be of no more than 8 students; our regional restrictions will also still apply. All participants should be high-school students or younger. Contact us if you think an exception should be made for your team.
  • To register for the online competitions, simply register your teams here. If you already have an account, you can just add the teams that will be competing online by registering for the November Online tournament or the 2010 Online tournament. Note that you may not register the same individuals for both the on-site and online competitions! If you do not have account with us, you can create one and then register your teams just for the online competition.
  • Registration for the online competitions will remain open past the November 1 deadlines for our on-site competitions up until the day of the competition.
  • The Online Tournaments will operate by an honor system. If you are lame enough to cheat on an unofficial math contest with no prizes, well... yeah.

Here is some logistical information:

  • On the day of the competition, the problems for each test (individual, team, yes, even Guts) will be made available online approximately one hour after the corresponding contest is held on-site. See the schedule for the exact times the rounds will occur.
  • Answers will be entered into an online webform for each test immediately after is it is completed.
  • Results for the online competition will be posted on our website.
