CONTROL BOARD TESTING ROBOT
These are images of a custom cartesian robotic system I developed while at Intelligent Automation Systems.
The purpose of
system was to automate the testing of control boards for multi-terabyte RAID storage systems. A portable robot with
relatively small footprint was needed for running diagnostic tests on RAID systems as they were running in order to
assess their robustness and redundancy.
The robot end-effector was a standard electrical spring-pin, which would be brought into contact with solder pads on the RAID control board. Signal levels could be monitored, or new signals could be injected by the spring-pin, depending on the test procedure. Because there were no readily available off-the-shelf linear motion solutions which met our space limitations, all three axes of the robot were designed in house. |
