Hongshen Ma

Home Welcome to Hong Ma's web page.

I'm a postdoctoral associate at the Precision Engineering Research Group in the Mechanical Engineering Department at MIT. My current research revolves around the development of adjustable nanogap electrodes and explores their applications in fundamental studies of electrokinetic and highly confined nanoscale systems. The principles developed in this research is being further applied to the development of electrical sensors for detecting chemical and environmental contaminants.

I teach a class called Biomedical Devices Design Laboratory. This class teaches the fundaments of electronics product design to electrical and mechanical engineering students. The students work in teams with doctors from Massachusetts General Hospital to develop new medical devices.

My advisor is Alex Slocum. He teaches 2.007-Design and Manufacturing for which I've developed a wireless motor control system.

My other research interests include bioelectrical impedance, novel applications of sensors, parasitic power harvesting, MEMS, microfluidics, consumer electronics, and technologies for science and engineering education.
